AK17-Eagle AK

Roald Amundsen telegraphed his success in traversing Canada's Northwest Package from Eagle in December 1905. Eagle had a telegraph because it was also the site of Judge James Wickersham's 3rd District Court, which had jusidiction for over 300,000 miles of wilderness inhabited by Alaska Natives and gold prospectors. A monument in the center of the village marks Amundsen's success.
