The Open North American is the granddaddy of all sled dog sprint races, dating back to 1946. With two 20 mile heats, followed by a 30 final heat spread out over a three-day weekend, this race brings the top sprint mushers in North America to Interior Alaska. The winner of the first race, Andy Kockrine, was the father of the winner of the 1988 race, Marvin Kockrine.
