For those of us who shoot in the field a lot, opportunities often happen at the most unexpected times. This was one of those times. I was searching for a large Great Blue Heron when I noticed movement in the riverside brush to my right. It was a Belted Kingfisher (Ceryle alcyon) alternately searching the shallows below for fish and eying my actions. It stayed long enough for me to grab four shots before flying away.
